KEY QUESTION zWhy not call it the M1?
It's an M version of the 1-series, so what else could it be called but M1? Well, while the car has been approved for production, BMW hasn't yet decided if it should call the new 1-series after the classic supercar. ''We're aware the M1 name comes loaded with a great deal of history,'' said M division boss Kay Segler. ''The question were asking ourselves is: can we use it on a car that is conceivably faster around the Nurburgring but quite a bit removed from the original?''

For the SET50 Index Futures, the nearest contract month S50H08 (expiring in March 2008), was settled at 576.4, a decrease of 13.7 index points from the previous week. Last week, the Thai stock market was pressured as well as supported by both domestic and foreign factors. The main foreign factor was the Fed interest-rate cut by 75 basis points on Tuesday, which was lower than the 100 bps many had expected. Even so, the Fed's action was a catalyst for US stocks and some regional bourses. Another foreign factor that resulted in volatility in the Thai market was the crude oil price which went up and during the week and finally eased to $101 a barrel on Friday after falling as low as $98.50.

The SET50 Index closed last week at 592.18, a decrease from the previous week by 22.19 index points or 3.61%. For the SET50 Index Futures, the nearest contract month S50H08 (expiring in March 2008), was settled at 584.9, lower than the previous week by 33.3 index points. The decline in the Dow Jones index in New York was the major factor driving most stock markets to decline. As concerns about the US economy have intensified along with the release of weak economic data, investors have becoming more aware of the possible onset of a recession. In the meantime, prices of oil and other commodities have continued to rise strongly as investors migrated from stock markets.

For SET50 Index Futures, the nearest contract month S50H08 (expiring in March 2008) was settled at 618.2, a gain of 23 index points. The local stock index was volatile last week. Domestic factors influencing sentiment included inflationary pressure as US crude soared past $100 a barrel and the baht recorded another high on speculation _ confirmed on Friday _ that capital controls might be lifted. The central bank's decision to leave interest rates unchanged also increased selling pressure on rate-sensitive sectors such as banking and property.
